The beginnings of frit and enamel production in Celje go seventy years back into the past and are closely connected with the development of once worldwide renowned enamel-ware factory Westen, established in 1894. In the period from 1928 to 1930 the factory introduced its own process of smelting frits according to German formulas. It was, nevertheless, the year 1947 that can be considered a turning-point in the history of the factory as well as the beginning of its own frit development in Celje. At that time a group of engineers, led by an internationally recognized enamel expert, Mr.Hubert Ankerst, established a development-research laboratory.The plant that initially produced frits and enamels solely for the needs of the enamel-ware manufacturer EMO, has in the course of time gained sufficient knowledge and experience to have been able to diversify its production programme, modernize the equipment and also start supplying its products to other users worldwide.
